After more than a year of mutual visits and discussions, Tianhua College of Shanghai Normal University and Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., Ltd. reached a strategic cooperation intention to jointly build an artificial intelligence college and an intelligent Internet of Things training base. On the 29th, the Artificial Intelligence College of Tianhua University and Alibaba Cloud Intelligent Internet of Things Training Base were established at the same time, and the first batch of freshmen of ai College reached 322 this year. The national "New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan" puts forward that artificial intelligence has become a new focus of international competition, a new engine of economic development and a new opportunity for social construction. This year, the Ministry of Education announced the results of the annual filing and approval of undergraduate majors in ordinary colleges and universities, and the artificial intelligence major declared by Tianhua University was successfully approved, becoming the only private undergraduate college in Shanghai to offer this major.

In the connotation construction of new engineering, based on the research on the school situation and learning situation, Zou Rongxiang, chairman of Tianhua University, put forward the implementation strategy of running the artificial intelligence major well and then empowering the whole school, and carried out the "intelligent" transformation, and carried out the practice and exploration of the transformation from traditional engineering college to artificial intelligence college. On the same day, he and Xia Rui, the general manager of Alibaba Cloud Shanghai Branch, witnessed the birth of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and the training base, and formally joined the ranks of training applied talents of artificial intelligence in short supply for the society.

The newly established Institute of Artificial Intelligence, formerly known as the Institute of Technology, has thousands of students from freshmen to seniors. After 15 years of running a school, Institute of Technology has become one of the most mature colleges in the school, and has a good reputation among similar application-oriented undergraduate colleges. The Institute of Technology covers three disciplines, namely, computer, electronic communication and machinery, and has eight majors, namely, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, mechanical and electronic engineering, automobile service engineering, electronic information technology, communication engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science and technology, and network engineering. It has won many Shanghai-level teaching and scientific research awards, as well as special government funds and school matching funds.

Private colleges and universities running characteristic ai colleges are forming a dislocation competition and complementary support pattern with research universities. Ling Xufeng, dean of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and chief engineer of school informatization, revealed that Tianhua College and Alibaba Cloud will jointly build the Institute of Artificial Intelligence in the mode of "industrial college", forming a complete teaching system, training system and innovation and entrepreneurship system for intelligent engineering majors, integrating modern intelligent technologies such as ubiquitous access, cloud computing, big data and edge computing, and determining "smart park" as the training direction for artificial intelligence majors. At the same time, a group of professional doctors from Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Tongji University were invited to form the core team of artificial intelligence teaching and research.

The person in charge of the Internet of Things education industry in Alibaba Cloud said that it will serve the teaching and training needs of the Artificial Intelligence College of Tianhua University, the needs of multi-professional ai training, the needs of the internal and external examination and research training, and the needs of the school’s artificial intelligence industrialization development goals, etc., with "engineering application" to promote teaching, shorten the distance between teaching and engineering needs, shorten the distance between talent training and enterprise demand skills, and gradually build a domestic first-class, benchmarking and application-oriented undergraduate intelligent Internet of Things training base that can be replicated in other domestic universities.

Empowering other disciplines with artificial intelligence also relies on the "whole system" led by the School of Artificial Intelligence of Tianhua College of Shanghai Normal University. According to the "Artificial Intelligence+"plan, the new major of artificial intelligence is combined with all majors in the school to form a discipline group of new engineering, new business, smart preschool education, smart health care and smart art. Even the newly-opened information office of the school will deeply connect artificial intelligence technology, strengthen the construction and application of information data platform, and implement the overall management intelligence of the school.
